Makenna’s First Treasury Basket~ Music

I recently found this amazing blog called The Imagination Tree. Is it possible to be in love with a blog? I think so. One of the MANY awesome ideas are her treasury baskets. I recently copied her music one for Makenna.

In it i have some children’s instruments, a baby maraca, a small water bottle filled with beads and a couple baby toys that make rattle noises.

I take the ‘box’ out about once a day for her to play with. Or she crawls over and gets it herself :)IMG_3972 IMG_3973

We taught her her how to use all of the instruments and her favorites are the water bottle ‘shaker’ and the xylophone. She always has a big proud smile on her face when using them.IMG_3975 IMG_3976

We all know that music is good for babies so im happy she loves this treasury box so much :) It will stick around for a bit longer and then ill make a new one. Anyone out there make any treasury boxes?? Id love some ideas!

Art Themed Birthday Party

Connor just turned 6 (!) so you know me, i HAD to throw a themed birthday party! ;)

When they are somewhat older and are actually into certain things, i try to pick a theme based on what their interests are at the time. Connor loves all things art. He really does. In the morning you will find him in his room coloring or cutting or creating something on his little table. I can’t express how much this kid loves crafts. And he's ridiculously creative for his age. Although i could be a little biased ;)

Anyway, i threw him art themed party and invited a handful of his close friends.

Here are the details:

Decorations:

I bought a large roll of white paper from Staples for 7 something dollars and i used that as a backdrop and covered it with some of his recent art-IMG_4099

I also used the paper as a tablecloth and put a glass bowl with crayons in the middle of the table for the kids all to draw on as they got there-IMG_4101 IMG_4100 IMG_4108

Activities:

The first thing i had the kids do was color some paper car kits i found on clearance at Joann’s for .50-IMG_4109 IMG_4110

Then after they played hockey for a bit in the living room  ;) i had them each paint their own canvases, also from Joann’s-IMG_4111 IMG_4112 IMG_4113 IMG_4114

(Connor made Spiderman)

Food:

All my ideas for pretty much the entire party were from Pinterest. I had alot of fun with the food.

Paintbrush krispie treats- (unlike the recipe, i just bought the already made ones and pressed the top together to make it rounded)-IMG_4103

Marshmallow Paint Cans- (i just dipped the ends in water instead of using corn syrup)IMG_4106

Edible Crayons-IMG_4105

Cake Pops- (I used strawberry cake mix with cream cheese frosting for the cake and milk chocolate to dip it in. And in case your wondering if the kids are all going to get lead poisoning, i stuck a tiny bit of plastic wrap on the ends of the pencils)IMG_4104

Favors:

I saw this idea and since i always make homemade play-doh i knew it’d be the perfect favor :) I made my own tags from the computer and scrapbook paper-IMG_4097

He got some great gifts!IMG_4121

He is already talking about his theme ideas for next year ;)
